Getting the forecast right for a salon
- Use the same weeks last year for service revenue.
- Put product orders in the week you pay the distributor.
- Put commission payroll in its pay weeks, based on the prior period's services.
An example
In November a salon books heavily for the holidays and orders extra product for gift sets. The product bill lands in early November. Commission on December services is paid in January, when bookings drop. The forecast shows that January payroll against a quiet month.
What to watch
- Retail stock building faster than it sells
- Gift card balances owed for future services
- A top stylist leaving with their clients
