Marketing Agency monthly financial report
An agency report should show who owes you and when they pay. Profit tells you if the work is priced right. Collections tell you if payroll is safe.
The six numbers for a marketing agency
| Number | How to work it out | What it warns you about |
|---|---|---|
| Retainer revenue, share of total | Retainer billing ÷ revenue | How much of next month is already sold |
| Days to collect | What clients owe ÷ monthly revenue × 30 | The gap between payroll and payment |
| Payroll, share of revenue | All salaries and contractors ÷ revenue | Team cost growing faster than billing |
| Largest client, share of revenue | Their billing ÷ revenue | One email away from a cash problem |
| Pass-through spend owed back | Ad spend paid, not yet reimbursed | Cash lent to clients without meaning to |
| Weeks of payroll in the bank | Cash ÷ weekly payroll | How long you could carry a late client |
Use these six in place of the general ones on the template's Report tab.
What to watch in a marketing agency
- One client growing past a quarter of revenue
- Pass-through ad spend you paid before the client paid you
- Hiring ahead of a signed contract
