Getting the forecast right for a tutoring center

  • Put package sales in the weeks they are paid.
  • Put tutor pay in the weeks the sessions are taught.
  • Lower expected sales for summer weeks to match last year.

An example

In September a center sells 60 packages in three weeks. Cash jumps, but tutors are paid as sessions run through December. By late November, few new packages sell and tutor pay continues. The forecast shows the late-fall dip that the September balance hides.

What to watch

  • Prepaid sessions owed against cash in the bank
  • Summer enrollment against last year
  • Tutor hours booked against hours paid
