Moving Company monthly financial report
A moving company report should compare each month to the same month last year. June against May says little in a business this seasonal.
The six numbers for a moving company
| Number | How to work it out | What it warns you about |
|---|---|---|
| Revenue per truck day | Move revenue ÷ truck days used | Trucks sitting idle |
| Labor, share of revenue | Crew pay ÷ revenue | Moves running over estimate |
| Claims paid, share of revenue | Claims ÷ revenue | Training gaps that cost money |
| Deposits held for booked moves | Deposits not yet earned | Cash that belongs to future moves |
| Days to collect | What commercial clients owe ÷ monthly revenue × 30 | Corporate accounts paying slowly |
| Weeks of costs in the bank | Cash ÷ weekly costs | Room for the winter |
Use these six in place of the general ones on the template's Report tab.
What to watch in a moving company
- Claims rising with new crews
- Deposits held for summer moves against cash in the bank
- Truck repairs in the busy season
