Gym monthly financial report
A gym's monthly report should start with members. Revenue follows members, with a lag.
The six numbers for a gym
| Number | How to work it out | What it warns you about |
|---|---|---|
| Members at month end | From your membership software | Revenue follows members, with a lag |
| Cancellations, share of members | Cancellations ÷ members at start of month | The leak that decides next quarter |
| Dues collected against dues billed | Collected ÷ billed | Failed payments nobody chased |
| Rent and equipment, share of revenue | Rent + equipment payments ÷ revenue | Fixed costs that do not move when members leave |
| Revenue per member | Revenue ÷ members | Discounts and add-ons moving the average |
| Weeks of costs in the bank | Cash ÷ weekly costs | How long you could run if the billing run failed |
Use these six in place of the general ones on the template's Report tab.
What to watch in a gym
- Cancellations rising after the January rush
- Failed card payments that nobody chases
