Getting the forecast right for a daycare
- Put tuition in the week it is due, and track late families separately.
- Put subsidy payments at their usual payment speed.
- Add staff for new rooms from the hire date, before the new families start paying.
An example
In August, school-age children leave and a new infant room opens. The daycare hires two teachers in July for training. Tuition for the infant room starts in September. The forecast shows six weeks of extra payroll before the new tuition arrives.
What to watch
- Open spots in rooms that are fully staffed
- Late tuition from a few families adding up
- Summer enrollment changes when school-age children leave
