Courier Business monthly financial report
A courier report should show revenue and cost per route. Routes are where money is made or lost.
The six numbers for a courier business
| Number | How to work it out | What it warns you about |
|---|---|---|
| Revenue per route | Route revenue ÷ routes | Routes that never pay for their van |
| Fuel, share of revenue | Fuel ÷ revenue | Rates falling behind fuel prices |
| Driver pay, share of revenue | Driver pay ÷ revenue | Overtime and slow routes |
| Repairs per van | Repairs ÷ vans | Vans past their economic life |
| Days to collect | What clients owe ÷ monthly revenue × 30 | Shippers stretching your payroll |
| Weeks of costs in the bank | Cash ÷ weekly costs | Room for a breakdown or a late client |
Use these six in place of the general ones on the template's Report tab.
What to watch in a courier business
- Fuel costs rising faster than rates
- Vans due for major repair or replacement
- Large shippers paying past 45 days
