Getting the forecast right for an auto detailing business
- Use the same weeks last year for retail bookings.
- Put dealer and fleet payments in the weeks they usually arrive.
- Put supply orders in the weeks you pay for them.
An example
In April a detailer takes on a dealership that sends 40 cars a month, billed monthly on 30-day terms. Extra labor and supplies start at once. The first dealer payment arrives in late May. The forecast shows the six weeks in between.
What to watch
- Dealer invoices past 30 days
- Supply costs per job rising
- Winter bookings against last year
