Getting the forecast right for a lawn care business

  • Set weekly cuts from the same weeks last year, then trim for dry spells.
  • Put product purchases for each treatment round in the week you pay the supplier.
  • Plan equipment replacement for the off-season weeks, with the cash set aside.

An example

In October a lawn care company still mows weekly, but the last fertilizer round goes out and leaf work changes the routes. By December, revenue is mostly gone while the truck note and insurance continue. A forecast built in September shows how much summer cash has to stay in the bank.

What to watch

  • Prepaid season cash against visits still owed
  • Mower and truck repairs rising as equipment ages
  • Commercial accounts past 45 days
